GPS Trail Maps - About Scalable Vector Graphics

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is a new web standard ideal for displaying maps. Because SVG is a vector format, map images can be zoomed in for better detail.

Because the format is new, not many web browsers support this directly. (Microsoft appears to have withdrawn support for the SVG standard and are instead developing their own competing standard, called XAML.)

Adobe corporation has developed a plug-in which extends Microsoft Internet Explorer to enable the viewing of SVG files, available at the Adobe SVG Viewer Download Area

The SVG files on this web page contain the same data as the GPX files, transformed to SVG, plus links to aerial photo and topographic map tiles at Terraserver-USA (Many of the SVG maps on this website require the download of large amounts of aerial photo and topographic map data, so you should probably be viewing the SVG files on this web site only if you have a high-speed internet connection.

Most of the SVG maps on this website were produced with Wissenbach Map3D software. You can also produce customized SVG maps using Adam Schneider's on-line GPX to SVG converter at GPS Visualizer

To zoom in on the SVG file embedded below, move the cursor to the area of interest, right click to bring up the Adobe SVG viewer's menu, and then left click the Zoom In menu item.
